English Dub Review: An Observation Log of My Fiancée Who Calls Herself a Villainess “An Observation Log of Meeting a Self-Proclaimed Villainess.”
Overview:
When Crown Prince Cecil is ten years old, he takes Bertia as his fiancée. She claims to have memories of her past life, and says that this is the world of an otome game she once played. She also says that she is a villainess. Cecil is generally bored, but her extraordinary statements spark curiosity in his heart.
Our Take:
So we once again get another villainess show, and I immediately try to figure out what’s different. It is somehow not different at all and totally different all at the same time. I was hoping that this wouldn’t be some sort of isekai story, but Bertia is definitely an isekai’d Japanese person. That’s how it’s the same, but what sets it apart is the fact that it seems like Cecil, Bertia’s fiancée, is our main character. We’re seeing someone interacting with an isekai protagonist without following around the isekai’d individual. Not only that, but Bertia announces all of this to Cecil, and this is the most interesting thing that Cecil has encountered in his young life.
Cecil is one of those prodigies who’s good at everything. He’s so good that he’s become bored with life. I know, I was annoyed too, but seeing his reaction to the storm of chaos that is Bertia is kind of heartwarming. I’m not convinced that this is going to be a good anime, but I’m also not convinced that it’s going to be bad. It has just enough going for it that I think it could end up being one of the better “villainess” shows out there.
