Review: King Star King ‘Fat Frank’s Fantasy Lounge’
Spoilers Below
This week, the Waffle House welcomes a gross looking fella named Frank, but I guess he can’t be TOO gross because he’s got girls on each arm. After chowing down on a nice order, Frank pukes it then hands out coupons to his Fantasy Lounge which is conveniently located next door.
King and the rest of the Waffle House staff decide to head on over and right off the bat it really is like a Gentleman’s club on acid. We’ve got pole dancers, and dirty floors, and a big floating eye ala Sauron. The eye’s name is Sheila and she seems to have telekinetic powers that are able to control Frank and is also able to make any wish come true. Hank wants some weird soda, King takes on some mushroom-infused pyramids, but both make their respected power users sick with acne.
Unfortunately, Pooza gets flushed down the toilet for being too nosey, but Gerbals is able to make the save using his mouth-ass…I’m not making this up. Frank starts to turn into a bad guy, then he sends Hank and King into different rooms for massages that sound like they will have unhappy endings. That’s because the ‘payoff’ for THIS massage is your wildest and strangest dreams. Hank wants a reunion with his mother while King decides to shit in a tornado.
When King comes to, he is horrified to discover that he is turning into a pimply-faced mutant the same as Frank whom we now learn is in love with Sheila. Sheila flips out about King’s reaction to his body-dismorphia so our hero rescues Hank by shattering his dreams and breaking him free. This turns Sheila into a puddle of shit and the Fantasy Lounge goes down in flames. King sends Frank and a brain into a different universe. Hank and King end up in a local hospital where they find out that they may have some sort of STD.
What’s cool about King Star King is that it is starting to turn into a psychedelic take on Cheers where people would walk into the bar and then WHAM you get a show. And while I certainly wouldn’t compare the comedic writings of either show, KSK still gives you SO much to look at when going from scene to scene. From the gross as hell strip clubs, to the totally not sanitary hospital. Unfortunately, in a series where all six episodes are up at the same time, there’s nothing to make me want to tune in to the next batch. When Netflix makes a show, they put together a bunch of arcs so that they make sure when you binge watch, there’s something in the recipe that makes you want to keep going back, and I don’t know if this show has that. This is made worse by the fact that the finale episode has a puzzle you need to get past in order to watch it.
