Review: Mother Up ‘Overnight Delight’
Spoilers Below
Dick is looking to be the man of the house so he starts drinking coffee, starts shaving, and gets rid of his toys. As luck would have it, Greg decides to host a guys sleep over with his son Joel and Dick. Unfortunately, Joel is a bit too high strung for Dick and its starting to scare him. However, its here where Joel intros Dick to violent games and shitting in adult diapers.
Meanwhile, none of the neighborhood moms think that Rudi isn’t a good fit to host any kind of a sleepover and she needs to start doing so if she wants to keep shopping Apple to the other moms. However, when Rudi tries her hand at hosting the sleepover, but none of the other moms want to lend their kids. Rudi decides to fight back by spreading the word about the party by creating a buzz among the younglings. Problem is on the day of the party, Rudi throws a rather loud bash which may not suite the kids all too well.
Apple’s friends aren’t having any fun at first, but when Rudi introduces a pan of brownies the party gets cray cray. Parents at home can certainly attest, what happens when you intro kids to sugar??? Violence. Welp, soon enough the sugar runs out and the kids start having nervous breakdowns, so Rudi calls up a nanny to take care of the kids. Sarah soon comes over and discovers that all of the kids have disappeared!
Rudi confronts the DJ and he tells her where the kids may have went with the crazy nanny. The news pops over and we learn that the kids are at the zoo in the gorilla cage. Rudi shows up and hears from child services that she can’t see Apple until the state visits the house to verify the Wilsons are living a fit lifestyle. Too bad when she gets home she finds Dick beating the shit out of the DJ which is evidently a no-no with the family court. Thankfully, the Judge hears Rudi’s case and she sends the kids home with their mom.
Rudi throws another party, but this time both she and Sarah are watching the kids.
One of the major annoyances that are just NOW starting to rear their ugly heads for this series is the fact that the jokes that Eva Longoria take SO long to setup, but then when I get to the punchline I often ask myself, “Is that it?” I also couldn’t help but notice that we are starting to see more and more cutaway gags during the course of the episode, which sounds like to me that Family Guy producer Michael Shipley really is trying different things to spice up the show, but I’m not sure if the cutaways were the answer. Dick’s plot was all over the place, but Joel was rather funny if not too stereotypical. Rudi and Apple had a bunch of fun with the sleep over and there were a mess of funny spoofs, like the old-man DJ dressed as Daft Punk and then Apple being called a ‘Ho’ by her mom. That said, the show, overall, needs a LOT of bolts tightened before it joins the big leagues.
