South Park: All The Fallout From “The Worldwide Privacy Tour”
If you need any further proof on who the undisputed king of adult animated comedy is, this week should have been the reminder of who it is…South Park. After 26 seasons, this show is still getting people talking, pissing off celebrities, and making tons of money in the process while doing so.
Week over week, “The Worldwide Privacy Tour” actually has gone up in the ratings from South Park’s premiere episode of “Cupid Ye” which you would think inspire the network to want to be consistent in airings because the next new episode doesn’t premiere until March 1st, but with all of the hoopla this last week, maybe they knew what they were doing.
Day after the episode “The Worldwide Privacy Tour” premiered, of course Meghan Markle and Prince Harry got wind of the depiction, and although they claimed they hadn’t watched it, I’m calling bullshit. But, it did get the attention of Megan Kelly who noted on her podcast that if South Park gets you, it is REALLY tough to gain the attention of America’s youth. This is important, because rumor had it that the once Duchess of Sussex was planning a run at the White House which may have been the impetus of Markle and Harry potentially suing the producers of South Park. Fortunately, it seems they’ve changed their minds, but creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker have been down this road before and they do not seem to mind the threats nor do they fear them.
Not that they would’ve won anyway. In any case, Trey Parker has admitted that he doesn’t want to offend anyone, and at the end of the day we’re seeing the purview of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry through the eyes of children that eschew the stylings of brands like Peanuts and instead embraces the creators’ lineage of growing up on programming like All In The Family which, at the time was seen just as controversial as South Park is now. Whether or not Matt Stone and Trey Parker get things right or wrong in the long-term, is both subjective and irrelevant.
A big example of this was earlier this week when all of a sudden conservative pundits were retweeting clips of classic South Park episodes like “The Cissy” and “Mr. Garrison’s Fancy New Vagina” claiming that the producers of the show were attempting to be anti-trans when that couldn’t be further from the truth, especially if you were one of the many viewers who would watch episodes the the whole way through, you would note that Matt and Trey are anything but anti-LGBT in any variety, and are in fact totally supportive of those with gender dysphoria. While Matt and Trey may do jokes mocking some of the extreme leftist viewpoints, it certainly isn’t punching down, and more-so, actually celebrates and acknowledges all people as equals and that NOBODY is exempt from parody.
That includes you, Megan Markle and Prince Harry.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
