Review: Universal Basic Guys “Go Fund Mernft”

Overview

Mark helps Mernft Man build the house of his dreams, while Tammy’s fundraising campaign reveals a surprising side of Mernft.

Our Take

Hey who knew Mernft had a full name? In fact this week’s episode of Universal Basic Guys was the most amount of time we got to spend with the big dude and I’m happy to say it was an entertaining affair…almost(I’m not trying to undercut anything it’s because a whole affair nearly happens). Moreover this week’s episode of Universal Basic Guys takes on a topic that’s rather fresh and is a regular topic on court TV shows.

That being crowd sourced campaigns with proposed good intentions that are then being used for nefarious reasons. Everything from the #BLM movement to fake TV shows and movies that don’t actually get made to even toys offered up by major networks if only for a crowd sourced campaign that ends up raising all of the money but none of the fundraisers getting the promised gifts in return (in the case of #blm, various charity organizers ended up buying ravish gifts like multiple houses and cars). The examples are endless and while I would have liked to have seen maybe some more focus put on the latter ideas around gifts, the Go Fund Me bit still hit on a major nerve that really hasn’t seen much attention brought to it by other animated comedies.

Add in the fact that Mark’s dream home is just hilariously constructed and featured all the things that never could be real and only animated, and we’ve got ourselves a winner here. Maybe a little less on the montage would’ve been good if we were getting the big reveal later on anyway, but overall a solid episode.
