MTV Studios Developing “Daria” Reboot ; “Beavis and Butt-Head” Could Be Next

MTV Studios has officially launched as a production arm for MTV tasked with producing spinoffs, reboots, and more inspired by the company’s extensive list of original intellectual properties. The catch? Most of this programming will be produced and pitched for streaming platforms like Netflix, Hulu, and Apple. One that has already been announced, Daria & Jodie, is a reboot of the popular Daria franchise as well as talks of another Beavis & Butthead reboot. While the latter hasn’t been officially announced, the former has with the following show description and an accompanying teaser showcasing MTV Studios.

The iconic animated franchise is reinvented through the eyes of heroine Daria Morgendorffer and one of her closest friends Jodie Landon. These two smart young women take on the world, with their signature satirical voice while deconstructing popular culture, social classes, gender and race.

There's got to be some kind of twist that's going to happen with this. I don't know if they're setting up an April Fool's joke now or what's going on, but it seems too strange that they'd suddenly reverse on doing a fourth and fifth season after the show was already renewed and they were even just talking about working on those seasons like a couple months ago or something. Or maybe the two episodes yet to release will secretly somehow each be like a "season" in themselves?
