FXX Wants Another Animated Series Following “Archer” By 2018
Some good news and bad news.
Following the recent announcement that FXX is getting the eighth season of Archer codenamed “Dreamland”, John Landraf made a number of small announcements as per Deadline’s recent TCA recap of the FX panel.
Here’s what we learned from said recap:
- Animation Domination Hi-Def is dead not only in spirit but now officially by name. Landgraf notes that he wants to eliminate the brand, but was open to commissioning additional seasons of some of the content.
- While nothing is in production in terms of half-hour series (the goal is to launch one after Archer in 2018), Landgraf notes that he is interested in all types of run-times including quarter-hours, 11, 3, and even 1-minute videos.
It’s not due to lack of trying because FX is constantly ordering pilots for animated shows, but they haven’t picked anything up. The network lost out on the Final Space contest against TBS and even the networks’ own Louis C.K. has parked an animated series on the Turner Broadcasting lot. FX Productions did just bring on an SVP of Animation, so this should help expedite things, but it looks like 2017 in animation on FXX is gonna be all about Archer.
I love the idea of bringing back some of the ADHD franchises for new episodes. More Axe Cop, Lucas Bros., and Stone Quackers please!
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
