FOX green-lights Seth MacFarlane’s Bordertown…room for one more on AniDom?

Remember when I said last week that Kevin Reilly has been sifting through a number of old-pitches for AniDom and ADHD? Welp, Bordertown was a show that was submitted back in 2009 and was almost put on the schedule only for Bob’s Burgers to get the pickup. Fast forward to now, The Cleveland Show is gone, American Dad is moving to TBS, and Murder Police isn’t happening. So, with about an hour of free space for next Fall’s AniDom lineup following the renewals of The Simpsons, Bob’s Burgersand Family Guy, FOX was definitely sniffing around for what would fill that space and as such they ended up going to a familiar face.

Bordertown is a series that comes from the collective genius of Seth MacFarlane and Mark Hentemann (FAMILY GUY) and will debut during the 2014-2015 season. The premise of the show sounds rather exciting and none too dissimilar to when Cleveland Jr. got married and had to deal with a similar situation as we get a new animated comedy about two families living in a Southwest desert town on the U.S.-Mexico border. A press release further explains the series:

BORDERTOWN will take a satirical look at the cultural shifts occurring throughout America. Set in a fictitious desert town near the Mexico border, the series centers on the intertwining daily lives of two neighbors: BUD BUCKWALD and ERNESTO GONZALES. Married and a father of three, Bud is a Border Patrol agent who feels threatened by the cultural changes that have transformed his neighborhood. Living next door to Bud is Ernesto, an industrious Mexican immigrant and father of four, who is proud to be making it in America. As Bud and Ernesto’s paths begin to cross, their families become bound by friendship, romance and conflict.

The press release further tells us that Bordertown has gotten a 13-episode order which means FOX may have the space available to add one a couple more shows. For starters, usually FOX shows get anywhere between 22-26 episodes for a pickup so Bordertown COULD start in the Fall, but we will probably need another series for the rest of the season just for the 9:30pm EST slot and a couple more series could be on the way to replace where Cleveland Show was at the 7:30pm EST slot which right now is filled with reruns and let’s face it reruns don’t bode well for ratings. So expect at LEAST one more show to get picked up in the next couple of weeks or so.

In the meantime, we’ll continue to monitor the news for Borderland as it comes, and let’s hope THIS one we get to see unlike Murder Police.
