English Dub Review: Love of Kill “What’s Your Name?”

Overview

Based on the Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Fe. The story follows a Novice bounty hunter named Chateau Dankworth as she encounters an assassin named Ryang-Ha Song while on a job. After their meeting, he ends up giving her information on other bounties. One day, a different job comes in and Ryang-Ha ends up being the target…

Our Take

So from what I can gather, there’s a Hitman who’s our male lead and a female lead who’s a very quiet & reserved bounty hunter who’s after his head but instead of killing our female lead during their first encounter, our male lead decides to flirt with her instead? Even with both of them having different yet similar kinds of dangerous occupations. Ryan Colt Levy and Erin Yvette do a solid job though in voicing their lead roles respectively.

While it’s unspecified how genuine Ryang-Ha Song’s feelings are towards Chateau, it mostly comes across as very cat and mouse with her obviously being wary of his ass, but the mystery of why he’s decided to make this random stranger his problem (or become her problem more accurately) but it understandably feels like a red flag, especially since Song is wanted by at least “20 organizations” for singlehandedly taking down the Hong Kong triads. Yet this fucker felt the need to take an interest in Chateau.

Overall, I enjoyed this episode for the mystery and thrilling-like atmosphere yet their relationship gives off bittersweet vibes. The episode feels like a very small piece of the puzzle when it comes to the mystery and narrative as a whole, with a tease for Chateau’s past at the end there. Also, the animation is a bit rigid yet passable given that there are almost no action scenes for the first episode. I don’t mind for now, but I’m hoping they’ll learn from their mistake and top themselves in future episodes.
