Comic Review: Bravest Warriors #29
With a new issue comes a new story arc, right? Not this time. Issue #29 contains two stand-alone stories of the Bravest Warriors when they were tiny children.
The first story is “Danny’s Big Day.” The Bwavest Wawwiows are attending Danny’s birthday party at an arcade. Beth got him a “Jest Kitten” t-shirt, while Chris got him a one-time use shrink ray and Wallow got him hover shoes. Catbug lovingly got Danny a gourd full of beans because he’s BEAN a GOURD friend!
Impossibear, however, thinks the whole thing is dumb and goes to spend his time playing his favorite game, ‘Good Show, Old Sport!’ He fully expected to have the high score…but someone else has pushed him down to fifth place! It turns out that younger Plum has beaten all of Impossibear’s high scores.
As the kids run off to play games, Wallow finds a machine that makes any flavor of ice cream. Unfortunately, he made all of the flavors. Including taquito. Regrets are abound.
Chris, Beth, and Danny started out playing a throwing game but, after Chris hit Beth in the face, they notice that all of the other kids have gone missing. The three friends head over to the ballpit, where Danny jumps in. Under the balls hides a slimy tentacled monster. Beth puts on the hover boots and jumps into the pit. She hovers over the balls, trying to pull the kids out. But then the monster grabs Wallow, who throws up all over the place. Thankfully, Danny grabs the shrink ray. He shrinks the monster and saves the day.
Finally, they sit down to have cake, only to find it smashed. Danny still thinks it is perfect.
“Wallow’s Dolls” is the second story in this issue. Wallow is getting ready to go to sleep by saying goodnight to all of his dolls – Colonel Chicky Chicken Pox, Black Lung Miner Pete, and Common Cold Puppy. However, Common Cold Puppy is missing! He calls the rest of the Lil’ Warriors to help him track down his missing toy. The gang, rather unwillingly, agrees to help Wallow.
Beth realizes that whoever took Common Cold Puppy broke in through the window and left a trail of purple slime in their wake. The gang follows the trail, finding a Blobby Purple Goo Monster Alien holding Common Cold Puppy. The Lil’ Warriors start to beat up the monster before finding out that he only took the Puppy because he is lonely. Wallow fixes the problem by adopting the Blobby Purple Goo Not-Really-A-Monster Alien and cuddling with him in bed.
While it was kinda cool seeing the Warriors as children, the birthday party story was a little too stuffed with events for a stand-along story. (Or at least a stand-alone story that had to share an issue with a second story.) They could have easily written out both Catbug, Impossibear, and Plum. None of those pieces were important to the plot. The second story was a bit better but it was still on the boring side. It will be nice to see the Warriors back in adventure mode.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
