Shorts Review: RWBY Chibi Episode 15

This episode was 4 mins and 34 seconds long with one promotional ad.

“Bad Boy Jaune”

It starts off cute with Jaune and Zweii in at first what looks like them on a motorcycle.

Only for the camera to zoom out revealing they Bike hasn’t moved and the wind blowing in their face was simply a small fan. 😛 Jaune starts to get carried away and is to say “Bros before hoes” but before he gets to the “Hoes” part of the sentence she’s tastefully and abruptly interrupted by Yang walking towards him and she isn’t happy…It’s revealed that He’s on Yang’s Bike and after seeing Jaune making an ass of himself on her bike, It’s not winning him any liability right now.

Before she starts her bike, of course, she demands Jaune to give her back the shades he was wearing too, And straight up leaves while blowing smoke at Jaune and her own dog’s face. (WTF Yang!)

Jaune decides to try and salvage this fun moment with Zweii but before he can do a fist-to-paw bump, Ruby shows up and says “Let’s go eat Weiss’ homework.” and the skit ends with Jaune left disappointed.

“Let’s go eat Weiss’ homework.” – Ruby Rose

I now sincerely believe that it is Chibi Canon that Ruby actually thinks that eating the knowledge from Weiss’ homework/notes will somehow make her smarter. Or Ruby’s just a lil’ shit that needs her butt kicked every now and again to keep her in line. I like how the bad boy jaune skit didn’t end with jaune still wanting to be cool and masculine, it ended with him wanting hugs and kisses like the lil dog and honestly I’m ok with this.

“Neptunes Phobia”

Sun & Neptune are walking casually around the street and Neptune apprehensively notices a puddle by the sidewalk. As a Car quickly runs by, Neptune cartoonishly jumps on Sun’s head in fear to avoid the possibility of getting hit by the puddle. Understandably Sun is annoyed by this saying to him “You gotta get over this.” and Neptune says in response “I”m working on it ok?”

This leads to showing a montage of random scenes involving what most of us already know of Neptune in that he’s ironically scared shitless of water yet named after a mythological water god but how far does his fear extend to?

Neptune

So far he can’t walk out in the rain without multiple umbrellas.

He showers with his clothes on while wearing scuba goggles and flotation devices on his arms and as he walks out of the said shower, he slips on his back because of his wet sneakers. (I’ve been wondering how “Aquaphobics” clean themselves for a while. :P)

And we then cut to a scene where Neptune is a lifeguard also with his clothes on. (It’s like the animators were too lazy to design him with any kind of trunks at this point.) Jaune slips into the water like the clumsy dolt that he is and Neptune who is supposed to be a lifeguard ignores him and it takes a bubble popping with the word “Dead” for him to even notice it only to find out He was temporarily covering for Sun.

And it cuts back revealing that Sun was making him reflect on the varying examples of his character flaw which consequently makes him a liability to himself and everyone around him. Neptune says to him while still clinging onto Suns head “Maybe your right” while Sun shakes his head in disdain and the skit ends.

Neptune really needs to get over his fear of water but at the same time, I kinda don’t want him to get over it or at least give us a fucking reason to know why this fear is so polarizing to him.

“Nora Gift”

Ren approaches Nora who is told he has a “Special Delivery” with a gift box that has Ren’s primary color scheme of Emerald Green and pink. Nora tries to playfully dodge the question of what the gift contents is by saying it’s from a “Secret admirer” and “from someone who loooves you!” When Ren is quick to figure out it might be from her Nora tries to quickly deny it and since she won’t give a valid and direct answer Ren straight up leaves and Nora tries to make him stay to open said-gift.

But Ren further turns down opening the gift pointing out that it’s either a “Trap from their numerous enemies or one of her pranks.” Nora is saddened, that is until that sadness is interrupted by aggressive animal growls with Phyrra warning her of the “Growling” box and the skit ends with Nora saying in her own words “Oh shit I forgot the air-holes” and the skit abruptly ends. Bless Nora, she just wants to be with Ren but doesn’t want to jeopardize her friendship with him. Maybe live gifts aren’t really the best idea to show your love though. 😛 The episode ends with a random Ukulele song being played during the credits.

SCORE

5/10

A couple of things I got from this episode

1) Ren loves Nora, but not the way she would like.

2) Nora is really obvious about her feelings but also in denial.

3) Nora needs to chill with the pranks. Like, for real. Chill, Nora. Seriously.

I like how they subtlety adds in music from the OST to fit the characters. Some examples: A version of “Boop” is playing during the Ren and Nora scene and Jaune is humming “Mirror Mirror” (which was sung by Weiss canonically)

Best Sketch: “Bad Boy Jaune”

Worst Sketch: “Neptunes Phobia”
