Shorts Review: New Zealand’s @Mukpuddy studios debuts ‘Crumbs’!

Could a three dude studio in New Zealand make the best-produced animated series on the internet? It’s fucking close…

One of the major questions I usually ask myself whenever I check out a new animated series online I ask myself…could this be on TV? Nine times out of 10, I would say no there is really no shot. Whether it’s because the show has no plot or no character development, there are a litany of reasons why I would normally give that answer. Enter C.R.U.M.B.S. a new series from Mukpuddy (Animashups) that follows a police force lead by Lieutenant Magnum Bap (voiced by animator Ryan Cooper), Detective Tickleberry (Rose Matafeo) and Detective Choc Brown (more Ryan Cooper) as they clean up the mean streets of Cityopolis from the likes of three angry mice looking to soil them block by block.

The show is SO good because it totally could be put on TV right now and fit right in. The dialogue is smart, funny, and none-too explicit which is actually a nice change of pace from your normal Youtube short. The animation looks like Aqua Teen, but the characters might be more fun and maybe even animated better too as they are designed with big huge faces meshed with their small bodies that are a laugh unto themselves.  The voice-acting is impeccable, too and for a moment there I thought I was watching a US-based series only to remember this show was made 16 hours away from anything US. This is one of the few shows I have seen in 2013 where I can not wait until episode 2 and that’s rare for a web series. Then again, this may be less of a web series and more of a TV series waiting in the wings.
