English Dub Review: Tokyo Revengers: War of the Three Titans Arc “Crack a Smile”
Overview
Twelve years later, the criminal underworld is ruled by Bonten, an organization far more vicious than the old Tokyo Manji Gang. Takemichi is stunned to learn that Bonten is led by someone from his former life. He wants to go back in time, but the power he once relied on is now out of reach. With no way back, Takemichi meets his friends to open the time capsule they buried 12 years ago.
Our Take
Picking up from the previous episode, Tokyo Revengers jumps twelve years into the future, introducing Bonten, a dangerous criminal organization that has taken over the underworld. Takemichi is shocked by the revelation of who leads the group and struggles to understand how the timeline has changed. With his ability to travel back in time seemingly unavailable, he reunites with his former Toman friends to open the time capsule they buried years ago.
The rest of the proceedings does a great job building anticipation for what comes next, particularly through the reunion and the heartfelt letters reflecting on how much Toman meant to everyone. Seeing how the characters have changed after the time skip is intriguing, while the mystery surrounding Mikey and Bonten leaves plenty of questions unanswered. Although the pacing feels more like a buildup to future events, the episode keeps things interesting without needing constant action.
Overall, this is an engaging setup for the next stage of Tokyo Revengers, balancing nostalgia with the mystery of what lies ahead. Takemichi’s determination to help his friends remains a driving force, and the time capsule adds an emotional touch to the reunion. While the censorship of the manji symbol and some subtitle issues are disappointing, the episode ends on a note that leaves viewers eager to see what happens next.
