English Dub Review: Grow Up Show: Sunflower Circus “Is All That Kindness Just A Lie?”
Overview:
Maria collapses from exhaustion, and Rin fiercely scolds the troupe for causing chaos at the hospital.
Our Take(Spoilers):
Something tells me this show will run longer than a typical twelve episodes. It seems like we’re starting a pretty big arc with all the revelations that we got. Maria got injured when she was younger; she damaged her pituitary gland. That’s why she’s so much smaller than she should be, because apparently the pituitary gland controls growth hormone. If nothing else, at least this show taught you something, right?
During the episode, it looks like Rin is up to something shady. She delivers financial reports about the circus to their rival, Nanami Sumeragi. They discover that she’s working to sell the Sunflower Circus to the Sumeragi Group. Somehow, that wasn’t the biggest revelation of the episode. It turns out that Nanami Sumeragi and Maria are sisters. So this talk of selling the circus isn’t malicious; it’s a way to make sure the girls are taken care of if the worst happens.
Mizuka really swallowed her pride and stepped up for the circus in this episode. She manages to convince the circus committee or something to allow the Sunflower group into this tournament. If they win, then they will be able to pay for Maria’s care with no issues. Then they wouldn’t have to sell the circus. Maria, of course, accepts Mizuka’s offer for this, and that upsets Nanami. But while it’s presented to us as Nanami throwing a childish fit, it seems to be more than that. She seems more upset that her sister is choosing the Black Lotus again. In this case, by going along with what the Black Lotus’s daughter suggests. After these last few episodes, Nanami is a character I would like to learn a bit more about.
Something tells me that this show is going to be one of those that has a silly beginning but rips our heart out by the end. I have no evidence of this; it’s just a gut feeling. With how poor Maria’s health is, I don’t think she’s gonna make it out of this series alive. Plus, it feels like there’s something we don’t know about Mizuka’s father that rubs me the wrong way. I have a feeling he might be dead or something. He might be a deadbeat dad, but he’s also a famous deadbeat dad. Famous people don’t typically just disappear, but I suppose this is back in the 50s, so maybe I’m wrong.
