English Dub Review: Hell Mode: The Hardcore Gamer Dominates in Another World With Garbage Balancing “Conquer the Dungeon”

Overview:

Keel officially joins the No-Life Gamers as they tackle a B-rank dungeon. But as they grow stronger, Allen uncovers a concerning issue regarding his new friend.

Our Take:

I always find it fascinating in stories like this where people will go to extreme lengths to help people they barely know. I understand that Keel is now a member of the group, and I’m sure Allen feels partially responsible for his situation, but it seems a little odd to go as far as he does for him. In this case, it’s fairly minor to reach out to Cecil’s dad for help. But it’s something I’ve noticed in these types of stories.

Now that Allen has grown into his abilities a little more, he can do some pretty cool things. We already know that he can see through his different summons, but now it seems that he can speak through them. This makes “visiting” his family a little easier, and I liked getting to see them. Now Allen’s father is going to become a chief of a new village starting up. So he and Krena’s family will be moving soon, and I hope they remain safe.

Allen has recently gotten new summons, and they’re pretty cool. But the standout is Maria, the poltergeist. Not only is she extremely useful, but she’s hilarious as well. While Allen and his party slept, they had Maria and other summons keep watch. Allen asked if they were attacked by any monsters, and in a sing-song voice, Maria said that she murdered them. But where she really showed off her usefulness was when Cecil and Dogora got separated from the group. She was able to locate them and give them some useful items to heal. The fact that she can talk really puts her in the top tier of Allen’s summons for me.

The group is making headway in dungeons, and Allen learns of a new way to get gear or make money. There are auctions that take place where you can sell off equipment you might not need. This could be part of the reason why Allen is so gungho to get to an A-rank dungeon. Up until this point, the group hasn’t been tested too much because they’re so overpowered and have become a well-oiled machine at this point. Now, however, Cecil and Dogora have to hold off some pretty scary monsters until Allen and the group can catch up. It will be interesting to see how they get through this one.
