English Dub Review: An Observation Log of My Fiancée Who Calls Herself a Villainess “Observation Log of a Self-Proclaimed Villainess and Being Struck Speechless.”
Overview:
It’s the day of the graduation ceremony. Bertia is resolved to have the tables turned on her and be struck speechless just as the game scenario dictates, but Cecil has prepared something entirely different. Then Heronia speaks up, accusing the villainess Bertia of heinous crimes.
Our Take(Spoilers):
One thing I find fascinating about this story is the perspective we’re given. When Heronia gives her speech, pleading with Cecil not to marry Bertia, it’s hard for us to watch. But if we had been following Heronia instead of Cecil, then perhaps we would feel differently. She gives off spoiled child vibes, but maybe that’s because we’ve barely spent any time with her. This thought exercise made me realize that we’re not even following Bertia in this “villainess” show; we’re following her fiancé. Heronia’s spirit attacks Bertia, and it’s hard to tell if Heronia wanted this or not, but it leads to something that I might not be a fan of.
During the attack, it seems like only Cecil’s earring is damaged, but his voice makes it sound like he was injured. After that, we are given a scene of Cecil as a child again, and his meeting with Bertia goes very differently. Not only that, but our current version of Cecil removes his glove, and it shows the hand of a wooden doll. I’m liking this show, and I will give it the benefit of the doubt, but it looks to be going in a direction that will undo all of what this season has accomplished.
