English Dub Review: Liar Game “The Losers’ Revival”
Overview (Spoilers Below):
The Minority Rule comes to its shocking conclusion, and Nao seeks a way to get back into the game.
Our Take:
It looks like Akiyama has conned his way to the top, as his secret strategy overcame Fuji’s own. It turned out that he and Player 15 have been secretly cooperating to ensure the former is part of the minority. It goes to show how much of an expert Akiyama is at manipulating people, making him a capable contestant of the Liar Game Tournament. While it’s still satisfying to see Akiyama out-conned another conman, the main drive of the episode was actually his origin. Akiyama became who he is to seek revenge against the marketing scam known as the Shuei Group for putting his mother into debt. So, if you’re wondering how he got himself in prison, there’s that explanation. It would’ve also explained why Akiyama might’ve been determined to ensure Nao didn’t suffer the same fate as his mother.
But, as the title suggests, it also appears that Nao has a chance to compete again, thanks to the game’s unique round called the “Loser’s Revival”. This particular contest pits her against the losers of the second game to win money, giving her a chance to pay to have Akiyama exit the game for good. Regarding the conditions set for this round, it surely sounds like it’ll be a bit more enticing than a six-hour wait for a yes-or-no vote, especially since Nao will be competing without Akiyama’s assistance this time around. More importantly, the episode further highlights the show’s distressing outlook on scams through Akiyama’s tragic past, as well as the development of Nao’s partnership with Akiyama.
