English Dub Review: Nippon Sangoku “The Fall Of Seii”
Overview:
Nippon Sangoku has dropped its first season finale, “The Fall of Seii,” which sees two nations finally reach the climactic battle.
Our Take:
The episode opens with the announcement that Ryumon and his forces are not going to receive any reinforcements. While most act in horror at the news, Kaku remains firm, standing by the capital’s decision. Ryumon appeared to agree with him, rallying his men for a retreat.
At this time, Wajima receives news of the retreat. She is soon convinced that Denki Taira has something to do with this, finally showing the inevitable cracks in his role as the Emperor’s puppet master, or so it seems. However, before he is dealt with, Wajima is convinced to find and destroy Ryumon’s forces without delay. Taking all the available soldiers, she joins with those already at the front.
However, the makeshift plan backfires, with the Seii army being defeated. Admittedly, the episode’s title was a bit of a giveaway. Wajima is saved, through the sacrifice of another, but is taken into custody. It appears that the battle between Seii and Yamato has finally come to an end. However, there is one more twist left.
Moving forward, a peace deal appears to have been reached. However, Denki Taira appears to have returned with another trick behind the scenes. News has broken out that Wajima was killed on her way back to Seii by her former soldiers. However, Taira, who was behind the attack, framed and imprisoned Ryumon over the act. Aoteru Misumi, the very figure whose plan was responsible for Yamato’s victory, is soon imprisoned alongside other Borderland General Corps members.
Taira fully seems to have come into power. However, Aoteru is planning his next move, and he has more than proven himself capable of great war tactics, just like any true student of Sun Tzu’s.
Overall, this is an impressive finale. The title gives away how the “battle” will play out, but not the “war.” Throughout the season, Taira was portrayed as a glorified nuisance, meaning that his true ambitions were saved for the finale, allowing fans to see it finally play out. Still, what is left wondering just what Aoteru has cooked up.
