English Dub Review: In the Clear Moonlit Dusk “The Side of Me I Don’t Know; I’m Just Jealous Is All.”

OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)

As the deadline approaches for her and Kohaku’s trial run of dating, Yoi trains a new part timer at her family’s restaurant, causing Kohaku to get jealous.

OUR TAKE

Double Dusk Review this week, and it turns out this was accidentally a good time to do that as we now have a potential rival for Yoi’s affections, an admittedly handsome man named Takuto Ohji. And as they point out, Ohji is basically a homonym for the word for “Prince”, so he’s another “princely” character to throw in between the two existing princes. Although, while I did say “potential rival”, I would not get my hopes up if I were him, as it’s clear he’s just in here to test and strengthen the bond between our main couple by forcing them to open up about their feelings. Though frankly, going from Takuto’s point of view, I wouldn’t blame him for thinking he has a shot, as the interactions he’s had with Yoi would certainly seem like he’s making some sort of progress, like him telling her he thinks she’s pretty…which causes her to think of Kohaku, something that would probably be really deflating to hear if she had actually said it. But fortunately (or unfortunately depending on how you view it), Yoi is pretty bad at communicating herself, and is still processing how she feels about Kohaku, so having ANOTHER guy start to show interest in her is just piling on to her confusion about what people want from her and what she wants for herself.

And then there’s Kohaku, who is finally starting to show some serious cracks in his own usually cool demeanor. While he’s been pretty blunt about his interest in Yoi, her distrust and confusion have expectedly led to him not being fully sure if she reciprocates. That seems to have been fine enough as long as they can still spend time together and get closer, but then here comes Takuto getting very suddenly familiar and Yoi seemingly responding to him as well. Yoi’s initial impression of Kohaku was that he had a ton of experience with this sort of stuff, but really he only has experience with girls wanting HIM, not him wanting them, which is what makes his genuine desire to be close to Yoi so new to him. And it turns out when you want someone or something that bad for the first time and someone else also seems to want that and seems to be getting close to getting it, jealousy is a natural reaction to that, which Kohaku has NO experience with and starts acting like a brat. It’s kinda cute right now, but it can get bad really fast. Thankfully I don’t think we need to worry about that happening to these two, but let’s keep watching and see how that plays out.
