English Dub Review: I Want to End This Love Game “My Childhood Friend Embraces Me”
Overview:
Yukiya goes to Miku’s when she’s sick to check up on her. Will they be able to clear up the awkward tension in the air?
Our Take(Spoilers):
Alright, I have to be honest. I thought that Miku was faking being sick and was upset and embarrassed about what happened the night before. While I’m sure that was part of it, she legitimately had a fever and wasn’t feeling well. I imagine she was actually crying as well because Yukiya does know Miku pretty well, and just because someone is sick, that doesn’t mean they stop feeling things.
I was expecting a little more from this episode. I know that Miku is sick, but based on the thumbnail and the title of the episode, I thought there would be more intimacy. I thought another kiss, at the very least, was something we would see. Don’t get me wrong, I was happy to see them discuss things a little more, and ultimately, I think it will be better moving forward for them. But we only have one more episode left, and I don’t think we’re going to make huge amounts of progress in one episode.
I may be wrong about the progress; it depends on a phone call. Miku’s friend called her to ask if she knew where Yukiya was because he hadn’t come back to school. When Miku said he was at her house, her friend shouted it from the rooftops. This prompts the people around her to say that it’s about time those two made it official. I hope that their friends peer-pressure them into being a couple. Not the best way to go about it, but hey, I’ll take what I can get.
A moment in the episode that might have appeared minor to most was impactful for me. When Yukiya comes to Miku’s house, he says a prayer at her grandma’s altar, and I thought that was sweet. Her grandmother is clearly very important to her, and Yukiya’s respect for her, I think, goes a long way. It did lead me to realize that I don’t think we’ve seen her parents. Surely she’s not living alone, and I think her mother works nights or something, but then who is there to take care of her when she’s sick?
There’s one episode left, and I thought we were going to have a blitzkrieg-paced race to the finale. That could still be true, I suppose, but I thought we would get more in this episode than we did.
