English Dub Review: With You, Our Love Will Make It Through “Episode 1”

Overview:

Mari is late to school one day and meets a new student who is also late named Tsunagu, who is a beastperson.

Our Take:

I’m not trying to yuck anyone’s yum, but it’s very clear who the targeted demographic is for this show. I didn’t know it, but I might be that demographic… Seriously, thoug,h this was a good first episode that intrigues me to see what happens next, even if it’s going exactly how you think it would. People are prejudiced towards beastfolk and in this world it seems that integration in schools is very new. So the parallels are right in your face and it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see that Mari falling in love with Tsunagu is going to be controversial to say the least.

One thing that it does a little better than your typical story of this nature is how everyone but the lead reacts. Normally it’s only the main character that is good to people like that and they have to make veryone else see the error of their ways. In this case she has a few classmates that are nice to Tsunagu and while her mother wasn’t as receptive to him as I’d like she wasn’t outright mean either. This is seeming to be one of the most talked about anime of the season so I’m looking forward to seeing where it goes.
