English Dub Review: Nippon Sangoku “Reunion Of Mortal Enemies”

Overview:

In the latest installment of Nippon Sangoku, “Reunion of Mortal Enemies,” Aoteru Misumi finally reaches the Emperor’s palace to call for reinforcements. However, things take an unexpected twist.

Our Take:

Last time, fans saw Ohga deal with the aftermath of her recent loss, compelling one figure close to her to sacrifice both his name and his reputation. Now that she has regained face, pressure is once again on Yamato. With Kaku suffering from a medical overdose, Ryumon feels hope lies with Aoteru, who has just reached the Imperial Palace.

Things take a turn when Aoteru faces off against one of Denki Taira’s minions, who proves worse than him, threatening our protagonist and pressuring him into giving him a bribe. It takes Denki Taira himself to intervene to collect Aoteru to bring him into the palace, with the soldier ultimately losing his head.

Of course, Taira’s familiar colors resurface when he tries to pin the conflict on Ryumon. Realizing he’s just a pawn, Aoteru muses that Taira seeks to usurp Ryumon’s current place and take over his reinforcements. Making matters worse, he’s got supporters surrounding him.

Throughout the series so far, Aoteru’s words, as a true student of Sun Tzu, have always proved compelling. He once more must put his words to use to convince the court on what to do next.

That said, he still takes a few risks, feeling no one present could replace Ryumon and that Yamato withdraw from the war. Overall, this is a series that has become infamous for its use of cliffhangers. While the plot seems simple at first, this one really takes the cake, with Aoteru now seemingly at the mercy of an imperial court, especially considering the Emperor himself is likely the lesser threat.
