English Dub Review: Witch Watch “Moi’s Denim Devotion; A Date with the Guide”
OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)
Morihito reveals his apparently long obsession with denim culture, and later takes Nico on a test date that he overplanned.
OUR TAKE
We’re down to the second to last episode of Witch Watch for this season (remember that it was announced we will be getting a second season), and it’s another really good and funny one, with both segments focusing on Morihito in some way, though in different ways. First is, as mentioned, us discovering that he has some long held fascination with jeans and the culture surrounding them. We’ve seen before that Mori has been shown to get weirdly into seemingly mundane things, as well as fashion, so this does kinda seem like an extension of that, but the point is not the weird thing being obsessed over, more the fact that Mori looks weird for knowing these intricate details and then getting everyone sucked into it. Apparently a part of denim culture is making wear and tear in your own jeans (if that’s the case then boy do I have some culture in mine), so Nico makes a double spell to try and wear them out faster, which expectedly backfires when they tear the jeans, which I guess is a big no no. Lastly, Miharu gives him some of his dad’s old jeans, which turn out to be super valuable. End of segment!
The other half of the episode is just as interesting, though not as funny, as we see conversation about dating leading to Morihito taking Nico out on a date!…more of a test date than anything, but hey, that’s still progress. Nico’s feelings for him have been quite apparent to everyone EXCEPT for him, so the significance to her goes unnoticed, but it still ends up being an overall good time. However, the date itself becomes a lesson about dating in itself, as Mori over-plans the date down to the minute, with time sensitive appointments at each specific spot, running Nico ragged very early on. Expectedly, the two eventually wear themselves out (kinda like the jeans! THEMATIC PARALLEL!) and fall off the schedule, though Nico takes this as an opportunity to get him to slow down and simply enjoy the simple things, which I would say is also an important thing to remember when going on any date, even if you think you have it all planned out. And maybe when these two are actually dating, they’ll remember that. Anyway, one more episode in the season to go, and there was a week off for it in Japan to maybe there will be one here, but we’ll find out for sure next week!
