English Dub Season Review: Medalist Season One

Overview:

Tsukasa always wanted to be a competitive figure skater but started late. Meanwhile, Inori dreams of being an ice skater, but her overprotective mother doesn’t support it. Tsukasa is beginning as a coach, and he knows what that feels like, so he decides to take Inori on as his first student.

Our Take:

This was a show I knew nothing about, and I went into it pretty blind. The only thing I learned was it was about figure skating, and the last figure skating show I reviewed was… not great. But I went into this with an open mind. I’m glad I did because this became one of my favorite shows of the season. I love a good sports anime, and this ticks all the boxes if that’s something you’re a fan of. The only negative I have for this show is that the CGI during some of the skate scenes isn’t great but it’s nowhere near the worst I’ve ever seen.

I would also say that if it wasn’t for a second season already being announced I would have been a upset with how this ended. It was a decent spot in the sense that Inori has gotten to a spot where she wants to be but her goal was to compete with Hikaru, she just now got there. I was looking forward to seeing that and I am a bit disappointed this isn’t a two-cour show and it’s a second season. No announcements as of yet when that will premiere but I’m looking forward to it.

This was a show that I wasn’t expecting to love as much as I did. If you love sports anime or enjoy emotional moments then I think this is a show you will enjoy. Lucky for me I love both of those things so this was a hit for me. So do yourself a favor and watch this anime now.
