English Dub Review: The Eminence in Shadow: “Moonlight that Pierces the Darkness”
Overview: Cid (Adam Gibbs) uses his favorite melody as a way to impress and help Rose (Donna Bella Litton) in her quest to take down her Asshat of fiancé, Perv (Brandon Hearnberger).
Our Take: Cid’s love of music has an intrinsic, goofy Cid reason behind it in the peace it gives him from others. His over-the-top reasoning ties into his desired ambiance and genuine appreciation for the mystique and grandeur they evoke in his battles. Music also gives Cid a chance to be more personable than he usually is. His and Epsilon’s shared adoration for Moonlight Sonata is a sweet, sincere moment, one where he doesn’t have to fake pleasantries.
The song’s inspiration utilized as a beacon for Rose is significant in its meaning. His offering of his power highlights how true to his word he is in being there for her. Also, his fondness for stylish theatrics is always entertaining in wanting the grand aspects of a main character.
Rose’s decision to fight Asshat alone further breaks down the fractures of her alliance by getting deep under Alexia’s skin. Rose’s betrayal digs into Alexia’s chip on her shoulder about her abilities and lack of control. Rose’s swift defeat of Alexia is a striking, dark tunnel duel and a slick display of how powerful she is.
Beta’s understanding of Cid’s decision and Rose’s choice to fight Asshat alone is tantalizing in seeing her go all out. Especially, because he’s true to his name in brainwashing her father and attempting to kill her. He’s generic as far as antagonists go, but he fits the mold in looking forward to his downfall. Most importantly though, it’s exciting to see where Rose’s decision will leave the girls in the aftermath of the conflict.

There's got to be some kind of twist that's going to happen with this. I don't know if they're setting up an April Fool's joke now or what's going on, but it seems too strange that they'd suddenly reverse on doing a fourth and fifth season after the show was already renewed and they were even just talking about working on those seasons like a couple months ago or something. Or maybe the two episodes yet to release will secretly somehow each be like a "season" in themselves?
