English Dub Review: The Ice Guy and His Cool Female Colleague “A Day-Off Date and a Shared Game”
Overview (Spoilers Below):
Fuyutsuki-san invites Himuro-kun to a movie, and their overtime together takes a turn…
Our Take:
The last time we saw the cool colleagues, they were visited by a man who knows Himuro. It turns out that the man is Himuro’s childhood friend who’s also descended from a spirit. Katori is a descendant of the Phoenix who’s recently been hired as a salesman by his manager, Otonashi, after moving on from his career as an artist. You might be thinking: “How the hell are these two friends if one has ice magic and the other has fire?” Well, your guess is as good as mine.
Whatever the case is, Katori could be another fun addition to the show’s endearing cast. Like Komori, Katori has that giddy and supportive attitude toward Himuro and everything else. It’s hard to tell whether his personality can make or break this enormous load of cuteness, but based on my amusement toward him in the episode, I can bet that it will be the former. Even the sequence with Katori and Otonashi hanging out with Saejima and Komori was cute enough to get Katori’s first impression blazing.
Aside from Katori, “A Day-Off Date and a Shared Game” is unsurprisingly another episode involving them on another “date” while Himuro tries (and fails) to control his emotions. This time, we see them attending the cinema to see the “George the Kitten” sequel, where it’s revealed that Fuyutsuki loves the “George the Kitten” show despite it being aimed toward children. It also teases what would happen with his powers if Himuro cried when Fuyutsuki was crying while watching the movie. It’s an interesting tease that could come to fruition later in the season. For our sake, let’s hope that doesn’t happen.
The episode also sees Himuro and Fuyutsuki working overtime in the same office and playing games to pass the time. Meanwhile, Saejima and the other work pals speculate about the two secretly dating when Saejima reveals that he saw them at the movies together. What made that scene amusing was that they were oblivious that Himuro and Fuyutsuki saw a children’s movie together. However, it also represents the genre’s cliché involving the supporting characters speculating on the “will they, won’t they” relationship between the central characters.
Despite that, “A Day-Off Date and a Shared Game” is another adorable episode that reflects on the characters’ refreshing rom-com chemistry through their harmless get-togethers. I also have to appreciate the musical score by Ruka Kawada for having an upbeat tone for its comedy with just enough tranquility in its harmony to provide relaxation and subtlety for the romance elements. If their “dates” continue to offer that much sweetness for the rest of the season, then this could wind up being another icy win for the romance genre in the anime department.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
