English Dub Review: Hell Mode: The Hardcore Gamer Dominates in Another World With Garbage Balancing “Plentiful Prayers”

Overview:

The odds are grim. If the No-Life Gamers want to liberate Lapolka, they’ll need more than just strategy.

Our Take(Spoilers):

Did you guys know that Natalie Rial plays Krena? I could have sworn that while researching this show, I looked up a lot of the VAs, but maybe I skipped her. I love Natalie Rial and would have talked about her sooner. In fact, this whole time I’ve been thinking that Krena’s VA sounds a lot like Natalie Rial, but I “knew” that it wasn’t her. Well, imagine my embarrassment when I go to look, and that’s exactly who it is! I had something else I wanted to mention about Krena, but looking up her VA led me down this rabbit hole, and you guys are along for the ride, unfortunately.

What I wanted to talk about with Krena was her special skill. It’s called limit break, and when she does, she gets this dead look behind her eyes. It’s almost like she enters a battle trance and becomes a demon on the battlefield. This isn’t the first time she’s done it, but it’s so cool to me that I wanted to talk about it a little bit, especially since she’s fighting a literal demon in this episode. The characters so far haven’t really faced much in the way of tension, and that wasn’t the case here either, but at least the demon made it seem like there could be.

In my experience, when you face off against a group of demons, letting any of them escape is a bad idea. But with Allen’s ability to see through the eyes of his summons, at least they don’t lose track of the demon that escapes. I feel like this demon is fairly dumb, though, because why would you and a random mob be the only two to escape? He didn’t think to check if maybe this was just a ghost with a sheet covering her or something? It’s okay; they can’t all be geniuses, but that is the archetype they’re going for, I think.

We’re closing in on the end of this season, and I hope that at the very least we get to see this current arc come to a satisfying conclusion. Wars aren’t typically won in a few days, but I hope that we don’t get an annoying cliffhanger. At least season three has been confirmed.
