English Dub Review: A Returner’s Magic Should Be Special “Yellow Ocean”
Overview
Desir and his party visit the Prillecha Kingdom to do special training for the Yellow Ocean Championship.
Our Take
Picking up from the previous episode, Returner’s Magic Should Be Special finally gives us the long-awaited beach episode, complete with swimsuits, volleyball, and plenty of fan service. Thankfully, the trip to Yellow Ocean doubles as training, with Desir taking things hilariously overboard during the volleyball match. Beyond the comedy, we also get some welcome romantic development between Desir and Romantica, whose chemistry remains one of the series’ biggest highlights. Their interactions bring some much-needed heart to an otherwise lighthearted episode.
Meanwhile, Desir’s emotional baggage continues to add depth to his character. Since this is essentially a time-travel story, he carries memories and experiences from a future his friends know nothing about, leaving him unable to fully explain what’s weighing on him. Seeing those emotions surface during an otherwise peaceful outing is a reminder of how difficult his journey really is. With new characters entering the picture and a magic tournament on the horizon, there’s plenty to look forward to as the story gradually unfolds.
Overall, this episode is a decent mix of comedy, fan service, romance, and character development, even if it doesn’t quite reach anything exceptional. The volleyball match provides some genuinely funny moments, but Desir and Romantica’s relationship is easily the standout, especially as his hidden struggles add another layer to their interactions. While certain aspects of the storytelling can still be confusing, I’m interested to see how the upcoming tournament plays out and how the series continues developing its characters. For now, the romance is keeping me invested, and I’m hoping the story builds on that momentum in the episodes to come.
