The Kings of Satire Strike Again: South Park Claims Emmy Victory and Trolls Donald Trump with a “Patriotic” Rebrand
Trey Parker and Matt Stone are officially back on their satirical warpath. Fresh off winning their first Emmy for Outstanding Animated Program in over a decade, the creators of South Park haven’t wasted a second doubling down on their signature, unfiltered mockery of American politics and corporate media—culminating in a social media victory lap targeting Donald Trump and a satirical name change for the show’s upcoming 29th season.
“You Finally Got Your Emmy!”
At the 78th Creative Arts Emmy Awards, South Park took home the trophy for Outstanding Animated Program for its Season 27 premiere, “Sermon on the ‘Mount”. The win marks the show’s sixth Emmy overall and its first win in the category in 13 years.
Rather than taking a modest victory lap, the show’s official social media accounts immediately posted a custom graphic poking fun at President Donald Trump. The artwork featured an animated Trump standing with his pants around his ankles, clutching an Emmy award surrounded by South Park characters—complete with the bold caption: “You Finally Got Your Emmy!”
The jab references Trump’s long-standing history with the Television Academy. While hosting NBC’s The Apprentice, Trump was nominated twice for an Emmy (in 2004 and 2005) but lost on both occasions to CBS’s The Amazing Race. The show’s latest burn continues a long-running feud after the White House previously dismissed the animated series as “irrelevant for 20 years” following political depictions in Season 27.
South Park Renames Itself SOUTH AMERICA for Season 29
The Emmy post was only a warm-up act. Just days ahead of the show’s Season 29 premiere, Parker and Stone announced that the series is officially undergoing a “patriotic” rebrand—changing its title from South Park to SOUTH AMERICA.
In a released statement, the creators sarcastically credited tech tech giants and their corporate backers for the shift:
“Inspired by the bravery and patriotism of Apple and Google, we are changing the name of South Park to SOUTH AMERICA,” said Parker and Stone. “We especially want to thank our parent company Paramount — a Skydance Capitulation.”
The cheeky title change directly parodies real-world corporate branding shifts and executive orders pushing to add “America” to geographical markers—such as map applications relabeling regional bodies of water. Meanwhile, the dig at “Skydance Capitulation” revisits the creators’ public frustration over corporate delays that impacted earlier episode releases.
Premiere Schedule
Despite the new banner, the show’s rollout remains on track. Season 29 (or SOUTH AMERICA) is scheduled to premiere on Wednesday, September 16, at 10 p.m. ET/PT on Comedy Central, with episodes streaming the following day on Paramount+. New episodes will air on alternating Wednesdays throughout the fall, leading up to November.
