English Dub Review: That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime “Chronoa the Hero, Part 2”

Overview

Chloe and Hinata meet Luminus and begin their journey as Chronoa.

Our Take

Picking up from the previous episode, the story continues Chloe’s journey through the past as she and Hinata spend centuries protecting humanity while uncovering more about the mysterious connection between Chloe, Chronoa, and the events surrounding them. Along the way, their journey brings them closer to Luminous and Shizue while gradually filling in important pieces of Chloe’s history. Despite covering an enormous span of time, the story keeps its focus on the characters and the bonds they form along the way.

As Part 2 of this particular story arc, these episodes do a great job of expanding on the setup from the previous installment while bringing several long-standing mysteries closer to the present. The time-travel elements can certainly be complicated, but the emotional side of the story remains easy to follow, particularly as Chloe and Hinata’s relationship develops over the course of their journey. It also does a nice job of connecting their experiences to events and characters we’ve already encountered without giving away where everything ultimately leads.

Overall, this was an engaging continuation that gives Chloe considerably more depth while adding some meaningful development for Hinata, Luminous, and Shizue. The animation and direction help give the story an almost cinematic feel, and the decision to skip the opening and ending allows the episodes to make the most of their runtime. There are still plenty of questions left hanging, but as the story begins transitioning back toward the present, this feels like a strong setup for what comes next.
