English Dub Review: Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World “A Single-Minded Star”

Our Take

Picking up from the previous episode, Re: ZERO continues the chaos inside the tower as Subaru and the others face increasingly dangerous obstacles. With the situation becoming more desperate, Subaru is forced to rely on his ability in ways that push him closer to his breaking point. Meanwhile, the truth behind Shaula and her connection to the tower finally comes to light, giving her some much-needed emotional depth.

The rest of the proceedings attempts to balance its intense action with some surprisingly heartbreaking character moments, particularly involving Shaula and Subaru’s increasingly desperate attempts to find a way forward. The animation, voice acting, direction, and pacing all work extremely well, with the repeated failures making the situation feel increasingly hopeless without dragging things out.

Overall, this was easily one of the strongest episodes of the season so far. Shaula’s emotional scenes were the highlight for me, while Subaru’s growing desperation added plenty of weight to the episode. The final moments also deliver one hell of a cliffhanger, making the wait for the next episode feel absolutely brutal.
