English Dub Review: Hell Mode: The Hardcore Gamer Dominates in Another World With Garbage Balancing “The Demons of Lapolka”
Overview:
The No-Life Gamers must hold the line at Tiamo. But the longer the fighting drags on, the fewer magic stones Allen has left.
Our Take(Spoilers):
During one of the battles, Allen mentions that he’s not afraid of dying but is more afraid of those he cares about dying. This isn’t exactly a unique sentiment for a story’s hero, but I think he should worry about dying. Mainly because what is going to happen to him if he dies? We still don’t know if he’s in a video game or somehow got reincarnated into another world based on a video game. If he dies in this world, would he just wake up in his apartment back home? Or would he be dead for real? This question not being answered is one of the main things I don’t like about this series so far.
To be clear, I’m okay with something remaining unanswered for the sake of mystery. But this doesn’t feel like something like that. Allen hasn’t once wondered why, when he decided to play a video game, he went through being born and having to grow up alongside a family. There hasn’t been a single time when he’s thought this is a weird situation to be in. So either video games are way more realistic in the world he lives in, or he is surprisingly chill about losing his entire past life to play a challenging video game.
It was also a little wild to hear how many monsters they killed thrown around like it was no big deal. You mean to tell me that you killed a million monsters and that wasn’t impressive at all to you? Not only that, but the bad guys apparently have almost three million more? Don’t get me wrong, the elves were worried about their chances, but shouldn’t they have been more worried? I’m surprised that there wasn’t more concern; that’s all I’m saying.
A third season has been announced for this show, and I have to say I’m tentatively excited for that. This is still one of the better isekai shows out there, but I’d like to see a little bit more. Personally, I’d like to see Allen comment on the crazy situation he finds himself in at least once, but something tells me that won’t be happening if it hasn’t already happened, but maybe I’m wrong- that’s been known to happen from time to time.
