English Dub Review: Daemons of the Shadow Realm “The Kagemori Brothers and the Kuroya Siblings”

Our Take
Picking up from the previous episode, Daemons of the Shadow Realm delivers a surprisingly emotional chapter while expanding the lore surrounding the Kagemori Clan. A flashback shows how Gonzo first met Iori, Asuma’s mother, and offered her a place with the Kagemoris after she was cast out by her family. In the present, Asa brings the injured Yuru back to the manor while Gonzo prepares to question Akio about his betrayal. Akio reveals more about his troubled past and hints that something much bigger is at play.
The rest of the proceedings also balances its darker material with some lighter character moments, particularly Asa’s determination to spend more time with Yuru and Yozakura’s surprisingly sweet personality. Learning more about Iori gives Gonzo and the Kagemoris some added depth, while Akio’s explanation makes his betrayal feel more tragic and raises even more questions about what may have influenced him.
Overall, this was another strong episode with some great character development, but it ended with one hell of an intense cliffhanger. The mystery surrounding Akio and the strange Daemon relics continues to keep the tension high, and now there are only two episodes left before the season ends. I’m seriously not ready for this series to be over.
