Our Take

Picking up from the previous episode, the story shifts its focus to Dazai and Chuuya in their younger years, with the two trying to outdo each other through increasingly ridiculous stories and ideas. Their rivalry makes for some genuinely funny moments, especially when you see just how much of their personalities were already there when they were younger. It’s goofy, exaggerated, and exactly the kind of nonsense these two would get themselves into.

There are also some surprisingly wholesome moments mixed in, along with another amusing update to the ending sequence. As someone who hasn’t followed the main series since its earlier seasons, I still find these shorts easy enough to enjoy, though knowing the characters and their relationships definitely adds more to the experience. At only around twelve minutes, it’s also an easy series to casually dip back into.

Overall, Bungo Stray Dogs Wan! continues to be a fun little dose of character comedy. While the rapid-fire format means some jokes can come and go before they really have time to stick, the charm of seeing these characters in such silly situations carries it along. And honestly, watching Dazai and Chuuya act like a couple of competitive dorks is entertaining enough on its own.
