English Dub Review: BLEACH: Thousand-Year Blood War – The Calamity “Blood For My Bone”

Overview:

Ichigo and Orihime confront Yhwach in a battle that will shape the fate of the Three Worlds.

Our Take(Spoilers):

When you think about it, Ichigo really does have powers from all the different groups that have appeared in the show. He’s a Soul Reaper from his dad and a Quincy from his mom. Then he attained Hollow powers and worked to attain the powers of a Fullbringer. I hadn’t really thought about it until Yhwach mentioned all of Ichigo’s accolades out loud. He’s not the first shonen protagonist to get a lot of power-ups over a long series, but they do feel a bit more meaningful in the shape of the story.

If I’m not mistaken, this will be the final season for the show, and it has me reflecting on the series a bit. Ichigo has come a long way since the beginning, but he’s still one of the most badass protagonist’s we have. I remember the scene that made me want to watch this show like it was yesterday. Ichigo ordered five ambulances for all the guys he was about to beat up while defending Chad if I remember right. It also has me looking forward to what we’re going to get because of something I’ve been hearing in fan circles.

Apparently, this anime is adding and changing some things from the manga. Tite Kubo was rushing towards his ending, as I understand it and he’s using this chance with the anime to tell the story he was wanting to tell. That’s exciting for me because one of the only negative things I’ve heard about the Bleach manga is that the ending felt rushed. So if that can be fixed, we might be looking at an all-time great anime adaptation. Though admittedly, it does also have some of the worst filler content in any anime I’ve ever watched. But hey, nothing is perfect, right?

What is perfect is getting to see Orihime and Ichigo interact in the battle with Yhwach. She’s finally been able to catch up to him and assist him the way she does best. I used to be a bit of a hater when it came to support classes, but after playing a lot of strategy games lately, I see how important they are. Ichigo has always known how important Orihime is, but finally I think she can see how important she is, and that without her, Ichigo would be cooked. I’m just glad that after the theatrical release, we finally get a new episode next week!
