English Dub Review: Tomb Raider King “One Suited for Domination”
Overview
When the tomb housing the Masamune relic appears, Jooheon races to claim it before a foreigner can.
Our Take
Picking up from the previous episode, Jooheon begins to use his knowledge of the future to get ahead of everyone else as he enters another tomb, this time in search of the Muramasa Blade. As expected, obtaining the relic isn’t going to be easy, forcing Jooheon into another dangerous situation while once again highlighting just how ruthless he can be when necessary. His willingness to cross certain lines gives him a more unpredictable edge than your typical power-fantasy protagonist, and his knowledge of what’s to come continues to be one of the more entertaining aspects of the series.
The rest of the proceedings are a noticeable step up, particularly when it comes to the action. The confrontation inside the tomb is easily the most exciting the series has delivered so far, with Jooheon making clever use of his abilities and future knowledge to gain the upper hand. There are still some questionable visual moments, including backgrounds that occasionally move a little too quickly, but the episode does a better job of combining its action with the series’ sense of humor and whimsy. The supporting characters are also beginning to become more interesting, with some potentially entertaining partnerships taking shape as the story moves forward.
Overall, this was a good episode that gave the pacing a better sense of momentum and personality. It may not be doing anything particularly revolutionary, but the combination of relic hunting, Jooheon’s ruthless personality, and increasingly entertaining action makes for a fun watch. There are still some rough edges in the animation and presentation, but the series is steadily becoming more enjoyable with each episode, and the ending leaves things on a particularly promising note without needing to rely on constant spectacle.
