English Dub Review: Skeleton Knight in Another World “Terror! Shadows of Undeath Lurking Down Below”

Overview

After discovering a lurking undead threat, Arc, Ariane, and Eevin fight to free the captives of the plot.

Our Take

Picking up from the previous episode, the party’s journey takes another unexpected turn after becoming separated beneath the surface. As Arc and his allies uncover the truth behind a disturbing operation hidden deep underground, they are forced into another dangerous confrontation that reveals a larger threat working from the shadows. Despite the darker subject matter, the episode continues expanding the world’s lore while introducing a few intriguing developments for both returning and future characters.

The rest of the proceedings manages to deliver a handful of enjoyable moments, particularly the teamwork between Arc, Ariane, and Chiyome, while Eevin receives enough focus to suggest she may have a larger role going forward. The action is serviceable, and although some fight scenes still look a little washed out, the animation appears to be a modest improvement over earlier episodes. However, the story once again leans heavily into the familiar slavery and kidnapping plotline, making this detour feel repetitive when the long-awaited destination still seems just out of reach.

Overall, this was another decent but uneven episode that wraps up one storyline while teasing the next stage of the adventure. The villains remain suitably detestable, and there are a few satisfying character moments along the way, but the continued anime-original detours may frustrate fans of the source material who were hoping for a more faithful adaptation. With the current arc seemingly behind them, hopefully the series can finally shift its focus back to the adventure that has been teased for much of the season.
