English Dub Review: Bungo Stray Dogs Wan! “The Hunting Dogs Are Here!; Investigate the Strongest Military Police Squad!; The Ultimate Military Police Science Squad’s (Super Scary) Hunting Dogs Research Lab”

OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)

The Hunting Dogs, the strongest squad of the Military Police, have a wacky work day.

OUR TAKE

This episode of Wan focuses on The Hunting Dogs, who I can surmise by the way they act and dress as being the sort of “Lawful Evil” group, in contrast to the main characters who look like a bunch of visually distinct misfits. Also, a cursory glance at their alarmingly slow loading fan wiki page tells me that they work for the government, and when I try to reach back to my increasingly fading memories of the few episodes of the fifth season I reviewed, I do have a vague recollection of them being present for the vampire epidemic that was going on at the time. This is a pretty weird show from what I remember, but government G-Men are apparently a constant in stories like this, so it’s inevitable that they would appear in this one.

As for the Hunting Dogs themselves, we’ve got Juono, who apparently has superhuman senses. For the sake of comedy, this means he is very easily overstimulated by noises, smells, and bright lights so…he’s autistic. Also he apparently wants to be a jokester but is stuck as the straight man. Next is Suehiro, the squad’s best fighter and great with a sword, who is also tasked with trying to uncover the weaknesses of everyone in the squad and finds nothing of value. After that Vice Captain Okura, who’s just sort of a brat, and every squad of anime mini bosses needs one of those apparently. Lastly is Captain Fukuchi, an eccentric inventor who Okura seems to have a crush on or admires greatly or something to that effect. Whatever the case, these four take up this eleven minute episode with their nonsense, and I have a bad feeling that they’re probably going to pop up at least one more time in the remaining episodes, but hopefully this is the only episode where they get the ENTIRE episode to themselves, as I just don’t know how much more of that I can take. Luckily it looks like at least the next two episodes are back to the main cast who I am somewhat familiar with.
