Review: The Legend of Vox Machina “The Ghosts of Whitestone”;”The Bard’s Lament”;”The Temple of Truth”

Overview:

Doty, take this down. I’m told there are secret tunnels beneath the castle. What’s down there is ghastly. I elected to stay upstairs, the strategic choice. My fellows encountered old horrors and secrets beneath someone of my notoriety.

Doty, take this down. My fellows and I traveled to a distant city to find an old friend. There was music, shouting, and at least one spectacular fight. I, naturally, saved the day. You’re welcome. Doty, make sure you got that last part.

Doty, take this down. Things are getting serious. Our brave band is heading somewhere very dark and dangerous, and even I can tell the mood has shifted. Everyone is quieter than usual, which for this group is saying something. Doty, sharpen my sword.

Our Take(Spoilers):

So we learned that one of the followers of the Whispered One was none other than Delilah Briarwood. To the best of our knowledge, she and all of her family were dead. But right now, it doesn’t seem like people stay dead anymore. Percy wanted to finally rid his home of the Briarwoods once and for all, and I don’t blame him. They managed to install a bunch of secret paths and labs in his home so that it would feel like they’re still there even if they’re not.

The first episode was good, but it was the second and third episodes that were truly something. In the second episode, we finally got to see Scanlan again. It’s cool seeing him as a famous musician now because there were a lot of musical references in his posters. One had the lettering style of Metallica, and they better watch out because I heard they like to sue.

Scanlan needs a new guitar player, and this led to a moment I was proud of. The voice of the guy he hired sounded very familiar to me. In my years of anime watching and being somewhat of a VA fanboy, I’ve gotten pretty good at recognizing voices. The guy who plays this character is Tom Cardy; he’s not normally a VA, but he has experience with the Critical Role group. He has some hilarious videos online. I recommend watching if you get a chance.

On the topic of voice acting, that’s one of my favorite things about this show. I love starting a new anime or JRPG and going and seeing who all the voices are. So knowing that this show and the whole project were started by some of the giants in the VA world is so fun to see. I know I’m not saying anything new, but it’s what makes this show special to me.

Finally, there was a major thing that happened at the end of episode nine, and I refuse to believe it’s true. Next week is the final three episodes, and I’ve never anticipated a drop of this show like I am right now. I’m hoping that the cliffhanger of this episode gets resolved in those final episodes; we might be waiting till the final season to get a resolution.
