English Dub Review: The Warrior Princess and the Barbaric King “Steam Veils the Foothills”

OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)

The group manage to escape the Fire Dragon and enter the tunnels of the dwarves, enjoying some armor upkeep and visiting the hot springs, with predictable zany results.

OUR TAKE

It’s the hot spring episode! Yeah, this isn’t one of the most eventful episodes, either on the combat front or the progression of Veor and Sera’s relationship front either, but it has some perks at least. For one, we get to see more of this world’s version of Dwarves. With how few episodes there are left in the show, I was honestly not sure if we would have a chance to see more of the fantasy races that were teased. With only two episodes left, I’m guessing we’re not going to get an episode for the Elves or the Faires or the…plant people? Dryads? But I’m glad we got to see more of these little guys. This’ll probably be where the rest of this season takes place considering how little time is left, and I doubt we would visit this area so late in the season if something significant weren’t about to happen. At the very least, we meet a new possibly important character in Kimaki, who it takes WAY too long for them to realize is not a man. Like yeah, Dwarves are typically short, but she was among a bunch that had clearly deep voices while hers was quite high pitched.

Anyway, the initial reason they came here was to try the hot springs, and if you’ve seen just about any anime at all, you know the drill here. Girls undressing, commenting on body part size, misunderstandings and antics about seeing a member of the other sex naked, it’s all here. Apparently the Dwarves have gendered entrances for their baths but don’t keep them separated at all, which…basically makes the different entrances pointless. Like I get it if this culture just is fine with everyone bathing naked at once, but then why say which ones the guys and girls can go into UNLESS you intend to separate them? But aside from getting another good look at Veor’s own “dragon” down there, this gives her a chance to see that a blow from the dragon earlier was actually more severe than he made it out to be, and so better learns to appreciate him. Yay. As for the other reason they’re all here, it’s to get Sera a new helmet to replace the one that Veor broke when they first met in combat. Which I guess we’ll see next week! And after that…I dunno, maybe another monster or dragon fight?
