English Dub Review: Snowball Earth “Drink Together”

Overview:

Turns out Nadare is the humanoid behind the Big Freeze. Tetsuo and Yukio fight the ultimate enemy.

Our Take(Spoilers):

I’ll admit that when this arc was coming to its conclusion, I wasn’t looking forward to a potential Sagami redemption. But it was handled really well for me, and I’ll admit I teared up a lot during this episode. Sagami distracted Nadare enough so that Yukio and Tetsuo could kill the kaiju, though I don’t think they’re permanently dead.

The rest of this episode was pure celebration. Tetsuo had frostbite on his ears and needed to meet with the doctor, who is also the boss. Tetsuo is scared of her, and I understand the sentiment; she seemed pretty mean. In fact, they took the other kaiju tamers prisoner and put them in a shed. When they talked about escaping, she said that she put Yukio next to the shed so he could crush them if they tried to escape. Talk about cold-blooded, I wouldn’t want to get on her bad side.

Turns out she can be incredibly kind in her own way. When she notices Tetsuo’s ears and face are swollen, she helps him and even manages to find other injuries that need some attention.

I loved seeing Tetsuo interact with Aoi; she felt like she was useless. Most people decided to leave what she said alone, but Tetsuo has been in her position. He tells her that she’s not useless and that if it weren’t for her, he wouldn’t have made it in time.

The best news is that we’re going to get a second season. I was hoping that would be the case because there are enough things left hanging that I want to see what they do. I’m hoping that the leftover kaiju tamers become friends of the Mishima Mall crew. Though being forced to eat the meat of their fallen kaiju might change their opinion. It was funny how one of them ate it like it was no big deal.

I can’t wait to write the season review for this because it was one of my favorite shows of the season. I’d never heard of it, but I am a big mech fan, so I was hesitant. While we didn’t get as much mech combat as I normally like, it was an awesome show, and I’m so grateful that we’re getting more of it.
