English Dub Review: The Most Heretical Last Boss Queen “The Cruel Queen and the Fiance”
Overview:
The queen announces Pride’s engagement on her 16th birthday. It may seem like the perfect match, but Pride knows it’s anything but a fairy tale.
Our Take:
It took me a second to get reacclimated to this story and the characters. I would have appreciated a “Previously on…” recap, but luckily it didn’t take me long to remember. Though it did bring up something that sort of annoys me about these shows. I understand that just because someone is engaged to someone in a medieval setting, that doesn’t mean there is love or romance involved. It is oftentimes more political than anything. However, it would be nice if an engagement were treated with more appreciation than it seems to be in most shows like this.
Pride’s newest love interest and her fiancé is Leon Adonis Coronaria. Their relationship will further cement a union between their two kingdoms. Thanks to a dream Pride has of the “other world” where Pride was a villainess, we know how awful she treated Leon. The Leon we are introduced to, and the one from that other world, could not be more different. I’m sure there was something that made him change, and I wonder if we’ll get to see it.
I didn’t think I would be excited for this show to be back, but I was pleasantly surprised. Pride is a fun character, and the people around her make for interesting characters as well. I’d like to see some actual romantic tension, but I’m not going to hold my breath.
