English Dub Review: Nippon Sangoku “Eye of War”

Overview:

Nippon Sangoku recently dropped its latest episode, “Eye of War,” which sees the war between Seii and Yamato start to begin.

Our View:

In the last episode, viewers were introduced to the childish Tonotsugu Taira, Denki Taira’s heir. At the time, viewers were likely guessing if his goofy behavior was just an act. Early on, as he travels to Kanazawa, we get hints that he is more sinister than he appears, plotting to dispatch his companion the second he has a chance, all the while plotting his military endeavors. Given that, for all intents and purposes, he appears to be a child in this world, it adds to the horror of the world the characters are living in.

As news is related to Tonotsugu and Gou Sugou, regarding a banquet, it is Sugou who sees through things while Tonotsugu accepts the invitation. Noting that they are unfamiliar with the area, he advises that it would be wiser to simply camp out and scout the area. This sage advice gets him arrested.

Of course, the banquet indeed proves to be a distraction, as Seii’s forces cross over and attack Yamato. Still, there is the lingering issue if Seii would want to see any fighting continue on their own soil. Cutting to Aoteru, he muses that all that has taken place over the years, including the farming plans, was meant to help prepare people for an upcoming war.

As the Seii army marches into the main keep, their commander, Aterui Kura, offers a deal. The soldiers would leave if granted the head of Sato. The episode then ends on a cliffhanger, leaving viewers to guess at what could happen next.

Once again, while the story continues to maintain Wajima Ohga’s benevolent image to the public, even making jokes about how people can’t resist how cute she was, hints of her darker plans start to give way. Ultimately, viewers will be left wondering what could happen next. Overall, seeing the pieces falling into place makes this a pivotal episode.
