English Dub Review: Liar Game “Solidarity”

Overview (Spoilers Below):
The Contraband Game reaches its climax, and the final standings are revealed.

Our Take:
After spending several episodes with intense back-and-forth mind games, the Contraband Game has finally concluded!  This is clearly one of the longest competitions we have had since the start of the Liar Game. However, it is also the most engaging and heart-pounding competition we have experienced, thanks to Yokoya’s formidable dominance.  I was even surprised at the length of this arc compared to the others.  Regardless, I was locked in from start to finish.  Now that we reached its end, who really came out on top?  At first, the Night Team seemed to win with Yokoya’s stolen cash, but the team’s accounts were actually empty, so the Day Team took the victory by a massive landslide.  Unsurprisingly, Akiyama came up with a last-minute complex plan to counter Yokoya’s counter-strategy, ending with the three chosen traitors, along with the rest of the Night team, leaving the tournament debt-free.
Of course, that also means that Akiyama and Nao are still in the game, as their quest to take down the competition continues.  With that said, it’s now safe to assume that the Contraband Game is definitely one heck of a nail-biter, and it’s not just because of the rules it provided.  As usual, the arc leans into the tournament’s psychological nature, especially the characters and their mind games with each other.  More importantly, it further frames the competition as a test of loyalty, more than the title suggests.  At the end of the day, Akiyama has shown that loyalty will always trump control, thanks to a strategy that Yokoya didn’t see coming, resulting in an enticing exposition-driven conclusion to the Contraband Game arc.  We shall see if this theory still rings true in the next Loser’s Revival round, as the quest to take down the LGT continues.
