DC Studios and Warner Bros. Animation Unveil Massive Annecy 2026 Slate: ‘Knightfall’ Premiere and More
Warner Bros. Animation (WBA) and DC Studios are set to take over the Annecy International Animation Film Festival this June with a high-powered showcase of premieres and exclusive first looks. Announced on May 11, 2026, the lineup is a centerpiece of the festival’s 50th-anniversary celebration, running from June 21 to June 27 in Annecy, France.
Led by Peter Safran (Co-Chairman and Co-CEO of DC Studios) and Sam Register (President of WBA, Cartoon Network Studios, and Hanna-Barbera Studios Europe), the showcase will signal the next major era for DC’s animated universe.
The Main Event: Batman: Knightfall Part 1
The headliner of the week is the world premiere screening of Batman: Knightfall Part 1: Knightfall. This multi-part animated film event adapts the iconic 1990s comic book storyline where the “breaking of the Bat” begins.
-
The Plot: The mysterious and hulking Bane orchestrates a massive breakout at Arkham Asylum, freeing Batman’s entire rogues’ gallery to push the Dark Knight to his absolute physical and mental limits.
-
Legacy: The project honors the work of legendary creators like Doug Moench, Chuck Dixon, and Jim Aparo, bringing one of the most famous Batman arcs to a new generation of viewers.
DC Studios: The “World’s Finest” Showcase
A dedicated panel will feature creative heavyweights discussing the future of DC animation. Attendees will get behind-the-scenes looks at:
-
Mister Miracle: Executive produced by Tom King, based on his award-winning comic run.
-
Creature Commandos (Season 2): Insight from producer Rick Morales.
-
My Adventures with Superman & Green Lantern: Updates from Jake Wyatt on the expanding “My Adventures” universe.
-
Starfire!: A new project spearheaded by Josie Campbell.

Cartoon Network & Adult Swim: Breaking New Ground
Beyond the capes and cowls, the showcase will highlight original voices and boundary-pushing comedies:
-
SuperMutant Magic Academy: Producers Calvin Wong and Jillian Tamaki will lead a session on the “Art of Adaptation.” Based on Tamaki’s Eisner-winning graphic novel, this Adult Swim series follows teenage humans and mutants navigating alchemy, dodgeball, and high-school drama.
-
Adult Animation Comedy Showcase:
-
Living the Dream: An original half-hour comedy from executive producer George Gendi.
-
Keeping Up with the Joneses: A satirical look at a family trying to keep pace with their wealthy Dallas neighbors (including Cowboys owner Jerry Jones), from the creative team behind The Looney Tunes Show.
-
A Global Animation Powerhouse
The Annecy sessions will also include Studio Focus Sessions where executives from WBA, Cartoon Network Studios, and Hanna-Barbera Studios Europe will share updates on their kids, young adult, and adult slates.
“Annecy continues to be one of the most important global gatherings… celebrating the artistry and innovation that move our industry forward,” said Sam Register. “From expanding the next era of DC animation… to showcasing original voices across our studios, our programming this year reflects the range, ambition, and creative momentum driving everything we do.”
With a lineup spanning from the grit of Knightfall to the quirky halls of SuperMutant Magic Academy, Warner Bros. and DC are positioning themselves as the dominant force in global animation for 2026 and beyond.
