English Dub Review: Chained Soldier “Late Summer Slave”

Overview (Spoilers Below):
Kyouka notices how many women are growing closer to Yuuki.

Our Take:
With the Azuma Banquet behind us, our focus has now returned to the real problem at hand, notably Yuuki attracting a lot of Defense Squadron women.  Unsurprisingly, that includes the Azuma members, particularly Fubuki, whose reward for Yuuki is as sweet as a jar of honey.  I’m pretty sure you can connect the dots as to what I meant without watching the episode.  Besides that, this is a laid back episode that may seem like the plot’s not going anywhere, but in actuality, it does.  The most notable aspect is Kyouka, who discovers an emotion she hasn’t faced before: jealousy.  With Yuuki being borrowed by other Defense Force members, Kyouka seems to be on edge about her own connection with Yuuki, both on and off the battlefield.
Fortunately, Yuuki understands the situation, which aligns with his kindhearted personality, despite his unintentionally “perversive” thoughts.  As a result, the chemistry between Yuuki and Kyouka has grown much stronger and may become more intimate.  This would also mean their relationship would be further challenged not just by the other members, but also by their battle against the Eight Thunder Gods.  In addition to this development, “Late Summer Slave” continues Shushu’s attempt to win over Yuuki through her “Magic of Summer” strategy.  Unsurprisingly, it didn’t turn out the way she was hoping for due to Yuuki’s training.  It may seem unnecessary at first, but Juliet Simmons certainly knows how to retain Shushu’s high energy and spunkiness throughout that segment, which helps with its comedy.
