Hand-Drawn Magic: “The Legend of Hei 2” Arrives on Digital and Blu-ray This May

Fans of the ethereal and high-octane world of Luo Xiaohei won’t have to wait much longer to own the latest chapter of his journey. GKIDS, in partnership with Shout! Studios, has officially announced that the critically acclaimed Chinese animated feature “The Legend of Hei 2” will be released on Digital platforms and Blu-ray on May 12, 2026.

The sequel to the 2019 cult hit arrived in North American theaters last September following a massive domestic run in China, where it earned a stellar 8.7 rating on Douban and was hailed as one of the technical peaks of modern 2D animation.

A Sweeping New Chapter

Directed by original creator MTJJ alongside Gu Jie, the film expands on the delicate balance between the spirit world and human civilization.

The sequel has been widely praised for its “uncomplicated” character designs that allow for some of the most fluid and complex fight choreography in contemporary animation, blending traditional hand-drawn aesthetics with cinematic scale.
