English Dub Review: Fate Strange Fake “The Pale Knight”

Overview

Though Archer had defeated Saber, the King of Heroes was also forced to fall when his treasury was sealed off by Philia’s intervention. However, before the shifting tides of the battle could be seen through, a massive fog suddenly enveloped the city. The police force, Flat, Hansa, and members of each faction were all helplessly swallowed by the black fog. When Sigma awoke, he found himself in a garden where the girl at the center of the conflict, Tsubaki Kuruoka, was playing with animals.

Our Take

Picking up from the previous episode, the story pauses the large-scale battle and shifts the focus toward the aftermath of the previous clash. A mysterious, magical phenomenon suddenly relocates many of the participants into what appears to be a duplicate version of Snowfield, leaving several characters confused as they try to understand where they are and how the situation changed so abruptly. Meanwhile, Tiné uses a command spell in an attempt to bring Gilgamesh to safety, while Enkidu offers cryptic guidance about future possibilities. With the battlefield temporarily halted, the episode focuses on regrouping and uncovering the strange circumstances surrounding this unexpected stalemate.

Instead of continuing the explosive action from the previous episodes, the story slows down to explore character interactions and background details. Ayaka Sajyou and Richard I share several moments that deepen their dynamic, while brief flashbacks provide insight into Richard’s past and personality. At the same time, other characters begin piecing together clues about the strange environment surrounding them, and a few ominous hints are dropped regarding Tsubaki’s servant and the larger forces influencing the conflict.

Overall, this episode serves as a breather after the intense action of the previous installments, shifting the focus toward mystery and character development rather than combat. While the pacing slows considerably, the story gradually introduces new questions about the nature of the battlefield and the roles various characters may play in the unfolding conflict. The episode’s final reveal something specific about the Ayaka present in Snowfield may not be who she appears to be, which leaves me with more questions than answers…
