English Dub Review: Fate Strange Fake “Gold and Lion”
Overview
True Archer, having defeated Berserker, stands before the police force menacingly, as if embodying despair itself. Meanwhile, Saber, facing off against Archer, races across the battlefield, using his speed and rapid-fire Noble Phantasm to fend off the King of Heroes. Hansa, witnessing Saber’s seemingly relentless barrage of Noble Phantasms, looks over to Ayaka, who is supplying the magical energy that fuels them, and asks her a question…
Our Take
Picking up from the previous episode, this chapter throws viewers straight back into the chaos as multiple factions collide across the battlefield, turning the Holy Grail War into a full-scale spectacle of overlapping confrontations and shifting momentum. Characters who had been sidelined suddenly reenter the fight, surprising assists emerge at crucial moments, and several long-teased figures finally reveal their identities or intentions. Amid the escalating clashes, unexpected alliances, sudden reversals, and brief glimpses into certain characters’ pasts add intrigue while keeping the narrative constantly moving.
Much of the episode’s appeal comes from how densely packed it feels, juggling simultaneous battles, clever magical tactics, and dramatic entrances without losing its sense of momentum. The pacing is undeniably fast, yet the direction and animation still deliver several standout action beats that emphasize the sheer scale and unpredictability of the conflict. Just when it seems the situation couldn’t become more chaotic, a mysterious dark presence begins spreading across the battlefield, hinting that the already volatile war may be heading toward something even more dangerous.
Overall, the episode stands out as one of the series’ most explosive installments so far, delivering a whirlwind of action, character moments, and shocking developments while keeping its biggest consequences deliberately uncertain. Even with its rapid pacing, the spectacle, dramatic turns, and looming new threat make it clear that the story is accelerating toward a far more dangerous phase of the war. If the series maintains this level of intensity, the remaining chapters could escalate the conflict in ways that few participants or viewers are fully prepared for.
There's got to be some kind of twist that's going to happen with this. I don't know if they're setting up an April Fool's joke now or what's going on, but it seems too strange that they'd suddenly reverse on doing a fourth and fifth season after the show was already renewed and they were even just talking about working on those seasons like a couple months ago or something. Or maybe the two episodes yet to release will secretly somehow each be like a "season" in themselves?
