English Dub Review: The Drops of God “Wine, Served With Mystery”
Overview (Spoilers Below):
Tomine and Shizuku work together to appraise an old wine collection.
Our Take:
With one mystery out of the way, another suddenly appears. This time, Shizuku and the others are tasked with identifying the wine collection that’s being stored in a villa for who knows how long. Thankfully, this one isn’t as severe as someone stealing priceless bottles. However, that doesn’t mean there’s less drama involved, particularly the different pairings they ended up with. The most notable one is Miyabi and Tomine, with the former having to choose between partnering with Shizuku and Tomine. Though Miyabi chose to stay with Shizuku, that hasn’t stopped him from being a tiny bit jealous towards his rival. There’s also Shizuku and Loulan, whose conversations sparked new information about Tomine having a younger sister.
In a way, “Wine, Served With Mystery” focuses more on the characters themselves amid their low-stakes task, notably the different pairings. Personally, I appreciate this approach for showcasing how people with common abilities would interact with each other, along with its visual humor. Miyabi and Tomine both share their encyclopedic wine knowledge, while Shizuku and Loulan have their impeccable senses of smell. These pairings not only help get the job done faster, but also help them get to know each other better outside the competition, especially Loulan. But only time will tell whether jealousy will come and threaten to take hold of the competitors later on. With two mysteries over and done with, we’ll be returning to the Apostle contest next week, with it being held outside their usual location.
